Saxony, Kingdom. A Commemorative Cross of 1870/71

(Erinnerungskreuz für 1870/71). Instituted 6 March 1871 by King Johann. (1871 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze with enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms, with an oak leaf wreath joining the quadrants, the obverse with a central raised monogram of King Johann, within a ring of blue enamel, the reverse with central raised dates “1870-1871”, unmarked, measuring 27.04 mm (w) x 31.80 mm (h), weighing 12.6 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in extremely fine condition.
