Item #EU17356
A historically important British Kosovo Day poster that was published during the First War in support of Serbian allies who stood against three Austrian and one Ottoman invasions. The poster was printed in Britain on a canvas backer, and measures 760 mm x 502 mm. It is in mint condition and ideal for framing.
Footnote: The Serbian people celebrate June 28th as Kosovo Day to commemorate the Battle of Kosovo between the Serbs and the Turks, that took place in 1389. Although the battle ended in a stalemate, the Turks had a larger surviving army compared to that of the Serbs, causing Serbia to be absorbed into the Ottoman Empire. From that date, the Serbs celebrated June 28th in hope that one day Serbia will once again be free from Ottoman oppression. During the First War, Serbia defeated the Austrians as well as the Ottomans in a series of battles, resulting in much admiration by their British allies. As an act of solidarity and good faith, Britain joined the celebrations of Serbia’s national day.
