In 14K Gold with red, white and blue enamels, weighing 12.5 grams inclusive of its ribbon and pinback, engraved "HORTENSE BLAKESLEE" and "DUNPHY 2729" on the reverse of the arms at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock respectively, measuring 40 mm (w) x 41.2 mm (h) inclusive of its laterally-pierced ball suspension, intact enamels, original ribbon with 14K Gold pinback, extremely fine.

Footnote: Hortensia Blakeslee Dunphy was born in 1867, the daughter of William Riley Blakeslee (1822-1909) and Mary Malvina Joyce Blakeslee (1827-1897). She was married to A. L. Dunphy and died in 1939, at the age of 71 or 72. She is buried at Woodlands Cemetery in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. Her forename is spelled "Hortense" on her award, yet she is acknowledged as "Hortensia" on her grave marker.
