Germany, Heer. A Commemorative Gebirgsjäger (Mountain Troops) Bayonet

Item #G40585

$895
(Gebirgsjäger Bajonett). This is a very well-preserved Heer (Army) Gebirgsjäger commemorative bayonet, measuring 345 mm in length with the scabbard on. The bayonet features a 205 mm-long nickel-plated magnetic metal blade, the obverse of which features a raised inscription of “Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit” (“In Memory of My Service Time”), flanked by a Stahlhelm (Steel Helmet) and a Wehrmacht-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, within a border of stylized knotted mobile swastikas. A period original black leather washer covers the blade’s transition into a nickel-silver hooked quillon, the latter forming a one piece handle with a faux horn obverse and reverse grip constructed of coloured and textured bakelite. The obverse handle features an integrated, finely detailed, magnetic metal edelweiss. The bayonet slot is filled with a forest-green wool insert and is held together by a nickel-silver nut. The bayonet is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of black-painted magnetic metal and measuring 225 mm in length. The scabbard retains a functional spring catch, securely holding the dagger in place during storage, with the throat held together by a single rivet. It also features a clip for attachment to a frog. Both the dagger and scabbard are unmarked. The bakelite grips are slightly loosened, running marks are evident to the blade, and the scabbard has lost its frog, but the bayonet is in an otherwise near extremely fine condition.
