Constructed of gilded bronze with enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with ribbed borders and pebbled arms, the obverse with a central raised crown, within a ring of blue enamel bearing a gilt inscription of “GOTT MIT UNS” (“GOD IS WITH US”) and arabesques, the reverse with a central monogram of Wilhelm I of Prussia, within a ring of blue enamel bearing a gilt institution date of “DEN 18 OCTOBER 1861”, the twelve o’clock arm with an integral loop and suspension loop connecting to a period original ribbon, the six o’clock arm maker marked “W” for Hermann Julius Wilm, Berlin, measuring 43.05 mm (w) x 46.96 mm (h) weighing 15.7 grams, some chipping of obverse and reverse enamels with period repair evident, accompanied by its award certificate, dated “24 MAI 1876” and named to “FRIEDRICH ALEXN(DER) KOTTENKAMP” of Bielefeld, signed by General Leopold von Loën, President of the Prussian General Order Commission, with issue number “4298”, measuring 220 mm (w) x 360 mm in its folded condition, material fatigue with taping evident, in very fine condition.
