(Orden al Mérito Naval). Instituted 1866 by Queen Isabella II. Type VII. (Issue 1938-1975). A silver Latin cross adorned by a Franco Crown suspension, obverse centre bears a superimposed anchor, reverse of cross is unmarked, measuring 34.65 mm (w) x 56.35 mm (h - inclusive of the imperial crown), presenting oxidation on center, 12 o’clock and 3 o’clock arm on both the crown and the anchor, accompanied by original ribbon with a traditional Spanish-style horizontal hanger with pinback, extremely fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
