Czechoslovakia, First Republic. A Czechoslovakian EM/NCO’s M95 Bayonet, by ŒWG

Item #M0385-21

$151
A very well-preserved Czechoslovakian EM/NCO’s M95 bayonet, measuring 370 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 250 mm-long magnetic metal blade with a sharpened tip and semi-sharpened lower edge, as well as a fuller running the length of each side. It is plain with the exception of a maker’s mark near the reverse ricasso of “ŒWG” for Österreichische Waffenfabriksgesellschaft (now Steyr Arms of Austria). The blade sits securely within a magnetic metal upper crossguard, featuring a hooked quillon on one side and a ring for rifle accommodation on the other. Dual visible side rivets secure the blade firmly in place. Two strips of dark brown wood comprise the handle grip, and are fastened together by dual magnetic metal rivets. Inset into the obverse of the handle is a detailed bronze Czechoslovak coat of arms, measuring 14 mm (w) x 15 mm (h). The hilt completes with an insertion slot and functional push-button spring release, as well as an integral loop. It is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a finely-polished magnetic metal shaft. A downward-pointing hook emanates from the side of the shaft, similarly marked with the logo of “ŒWG”. The throat of the scabbard retains a functional spring catch, securely holding the bayonet in place during storage. It is also accompanied by a period original leather frog and belt, constructed of multiple pieces of brown leather. Secured together with magnetic metal rivets, the belt connects to the frog with two functional magnetic metal spring clips and features a functional magnetic metal buckle for adjustable wear. While well-preserved, this complete set demonstrates some issues consistent with age and use, including running marks and oxidation to the blade, further oxidation of the other magnetic metal elements, and some material fatigue to the leather straps. It is in an overall better than very fine condition.
