Instituted in 1777 as the Order of the Red Eagle. In silver gilt, a white enamelled cross pattee, the obverse center presents a handpainted red eagle, the reverse shows the crowned monogram FW (Friedrich Wilhelm), the badge is surmounted by a white and orange enamelled bow, measures 17.25mm (w) x 25.20mm (h – inclusive of bow suspension and integral ring), weighs 2.9 grams, scratch test mark on base of 6 o’clock arm, enamels intact, light wear, better than very fine condition.
