Instituted on July 20, 1807 by King Friedrich August I. Two piece construction, composed of silver gilt, a green enamel Maltese Cross with white enamel border, between each arm are crowns with ornate detailing, the obverse presents a white enamel centerpiece inscribed with a crowned FA surrounded by a thin green ring and gilt detailing, the reverse presents a white enamel centerpiece inscribed PROVI DENTIAE MEMOR surrounded by a thin green enamel ring and gilt detailing, measures 16.65mm (w) x 18.25mm (h – inclusive of integral suspension ring), weighs 3.1 grams, obverse and reverse plates are slightly misaligned, wear to enamel, fine condition.

 

Footnote: The Order was established by the first King of Saxony, Friedrich August I, under the direction of Napoleon, who was responsible for raising Saxony to a kingdom. From its establishment in 1807 until the fall of the German Empire in 1928, the Cross was only awarded 332 times.
