Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised leftward-facing profile of Grand Duke Friedrich II, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENST” (“FOR MERIT”), within a circular oak leaf wreath, the obverse maker marked “RM” for Rudolf Mayer, measuring 38.22 mm in diameter, weighing 26.2 mm in diameter, most of the silver finish has been lost, in overall very fine condition.
