Germany, Heer. A Narvik Campaign Shield

(Heer Narvik Schield). A Narvik Campaign Shield constructed of stamped zink, the shield features a national eagle with swooped down wings, clutching a wreathed swastika, inscribed NARVIK in capital letters, with an Edelweiss flower (representing the Heer) in the center between the date 1940 and a crossed anchor (representing the Kriegsmarine) and propeller (representing the Luftwaffe) on the obverse, with its wool backer perfectly preserved, all four prongs that attach the shield to the backing plate intact underneath the fabric, measuring 54 mm (w) x 102 mm (h), and in near very fine condition.
