(Ordine della Corona d'Italia). Instituted February 20, 1868 by Victor Emmanuel II. In Gold, a white enamel Ruppert Cross with delicate Savoy knots in each quadrant, obverse medallion presents a blue enamel field with a gold crown decorated in white, red and green enamel dots, the reverse medallion presents a gold field with a leftward facing black enamel eagle with a white cross on red enamel oval, measures 50mm (w) x 53mm (h -inclusive of integral suspension loop), weighs 15.1 grams, enamels intact, worn on a replacement suspension ring, in extremely fine condition.

Accompanied by a full length Grand Cross sash badge ribbon, with bow, measures 775mm in length (folded in half), lightly soiled, in very fine condition.

 

Footnote: The Order was founded by Victor Emmanuel II to commemorate the unification of Italy in 1861. It was the first national Order instituted after the unification of the Kingdom of Italy.
