A fine example of a Chinese manufacture tropical pith helmet. This helmet is constructed of pith, with a solid construction, with an exterior consisting of multiple khaki coloured fabric pieces sewn together to form an exterior core, with two aluminum air vents on either side and a decorative band spanning around the exterior crown of the helmet. The edge of the helmet is covered in a tan coloured faux leather trim, with a decorative faux leather chin strap tightly secured to the front visor of the helmet. The crown is decorated with a metal tip, with a Chinese Nationalist “Kuomintang” cap badge star attached to the front of the helmet, constructed of silvered bronze and white and black enamels. It is attached to the front via a screwback that is visible on the interior. The underside is lined in bright green blended fabric, with the interior featuring a faux leather sweatband that is attached to the helmet via small pieces of cork. It is lined with faux basket weaving, and is maker marked “Tsung & Co. Helmet Manufacturing, Tel: 43077. 28 Lorong 23, Geylang, Singapore” as well as the same in Chinese. It measures 264 mm x 322 mm, with a slightly soiled exterior, and with the lining of the underside affected by light mothing, revealing the cork in some places. Overall, this is a well preserved but worn example of a rare second war period Chinese pith helmet. In overall as worn condition.
