China, People's Republic. A China-Soviet Civil Aviation Company Medal 1954, Cased
(中苏民航公司纪念勋章 / Zhōng sū mínháng gōngsī jìniàn xūnzhāng). Instituted in 1954. In silvered and gilt bronze with red enamels, obverse illustrating an insignia bearing an inscription in Chinese flanked by pillars, flanked by the flags of the Soviet Union at the left and the People's Republic of China at the right, with a shield below bearing clasped hands and framed within an open-ended wreath of laurel leaves, the insignia backed by a five-pointed silver star, each star point with seven emanating rays, with a single emanating ray between each star point, reverse with an inscription in Chinese stating "The Civil Aviation Administration of the People's Republic of China presented" and number impressed "118", measuring 38.7 mm (w) x 39 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, suspended from a traditional horizontal hanger incorporating an original ribbon with pinback, intact enamels, extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, exterior in maroon velvet on five sides, the lid heavily padded, red paper bottom, inside lid in turquoise satin and padded, base in a turquoise cloth fabric and incorporating a recessed medal bed, measuring 65.5 mm (w) x 105.5 mm (h) x 33 mm (d), light soiling evident on the inside lid and the medal bed, case better than very fine.
