Instituted December 27, 1941. A Croatian trefoil in black iron with thin silver edges, obverse center presenting the Croatian crest in a checkerboard style of red enamel with silver with a superimposed “U” in blue enamel, surrounded by a green enamel wreath, reverse embossed with date “10. IV. 1941” on 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock arms, with “ZA DOM SPREMNI” (Ready to Defend the Fatherland), although unmarked, exhibiting the manufacturing characteristics of Braca Knaus, Zagreb, measuring 40.5 mm (w) x 41.00 mm (h), on original triangle ribbon, slight loss to black lacquer on obverse and wear on green enamel wreath, near extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
