Croatia. A Unique General's Promotion & Death Confirmation Document to General of Jewish Ancestry
A formal promotion document, promoting Colonel Rudolf Wanner to a rank of Army General, dated in Zagreb, 8. of July 1944, 28cm x 40cm, printed on hard stock, signed on the left in ink by Minister of Armed Forces Nikola Steinfel; on the right, signature in ink by Poglavnik Ante Pavelić. Document is folded, in extremely fine condition, and the only document of this type known to exist.
A formal letter to his wife (Darinka Wanner), from the Army Court (2nd Army), dated 1 September 1946, stating:
"At the request of the 19th Vii. In 1946, it is reported that Wanner Rudolf (parents: of Hermaax and Sater r Prato), born in 1894 in Zadar, General in retirement; it is ruled out by this Tribunal on the 15th VI. 1945, under No. 4/45, for the criminal offenses of Articles 13 and 14 of the UVS, he was condemned to death, permanent loss of civil honor and confiscation of property. The verdict is legitimate and the death penalty was carried out.

VI. 1945, pod brojem ISa 4/45, radi krivicnih djela iz clanka 13 i 14 UVS, na kaznu smrti streljan, trajan gubitak gradjanske casti i konfiskaciju imovine. Presuda je pravomocna i kazna smrti streljanjem izvrsena.

Footnote: Rudolf Wanner was born in Zadar on August 9, 1884, his parents being of Jewish ancestry. He was an honorary Officer in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. After establishment of NDH 1941, he served as a the head is in the General Department of the Ministry of Croatian Homeland Security. Since July 1942 he has been Deputy Commander of the 2nd Domestic Defense Area since October. At short notice, he was re-assistant to the commanding officer of the 2nd District (November 1943 - March 1944), and from that duty was transferred in April 1944 to the Head of the Department of the Ministry of the Armed Forces of NDH. He was retired on November 1, 1944, as a General.
