France, Napoleonic. A Rare Silver Chaplain Roman Catholic Pectoral Cross, c.1810
Multi piece construction in silver, obverse illustrating Christ nailed to the Cross, with a halo behind his head and the Skull of Adam beneath his feet, inscribed Latin “INRI” for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum (translation: Jesus, King of the Jews), unmarked reverse, topped by an integral suspension loop, in monogrammed case of issue, case bearing “G.T” monogram on obverse and reverse bearing “Lemercier, 71 Rue La Bostie”, measuring at 54.10mm (w) x 106.75mm (l), and weighing at 19.8 grams.
