Jewellery. A Victorian Era Brooch and Silver Chatelaine Coin Purse, c.1867

(Jewellery, Brooches). Victorian. Ladies. A circular Mid-Victorian Era brooch constructed of silver and agate with a central orange coloured gemstone. The obverse is constructed of agate with a scalloped silver design separating the agate into six sections. The silver bears acanthus designs. The center features a large orange coloured, old European cut gemstone in a 12 prong setting. The reverse bears the inscription “Lizzie Sutherland” in Gothic font at the 12 o’clock position and “1867” at the bottom, with a horizontal pin and round wire catch. Measuring 53.63mm (diameter) and weighing 40.7 grams. Evident cracks and chipping in the stone, and light wear on the reverse, but in otherwise fine condition.

(Jewellery, Formal Accessories). Victorian. Ladies. A chatelaine coin purse constructed of silver. The small bag consists of interlocking chain links for the body of the bag with five small pearled links evenly spaced along the bottom of the bag. The frame and opening of the purse is delicately ridged to give it a braided look, with two pearled snaps for closure. Measuring 89.50 mm (l) x 53.90 mm (w) and weighing 23.9 grams. The coin purse is unmarked, and likely of French construction. Presenting some residue and wear, in very fine condition.
