A badge by a rare maker, two-piece construction, consisting of a patinated bronze eagle, fastened onto an open-ended oval shaped and white enamelled laurel wreath via two rivets visible on the reverse, towards the top of the badge is a white enamelled shield featuring the black enamelled cipher of Karl I, while the bottom of the wreath is decorated with the coat of arms of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The reverse presents a vertical pin, hook is a later addition, reverse of eagle marked with BSW in cloverleaf denoting Gebruder Schneider Wien manufacture. The badge measures 51.3mm (w) x 57.3mm (h), weighs 26.5 grams, lightning bolts missing from eagle’s talons, enamel crazing in wreath and a large chip present in the cipher’s background, a badge by a rare maker in near very fine condition.
