This is an example of a very fine quality private purchase 40-Year Military Long Service Cross for Officers (Militärdienstzeichen II. Klasse für Offiziere für 40 Jahre) in its original presentation case; a cross pattee constructed of gilt bronze; the obverse with a double-headed eagle superimposed on the cross; the reverse covered in fine quality mother of pearl; suspended from its period original ribbon with a button closure on the reverse; the button is maker marked, but the inscription is not legible; the case constructed of heavy cardstock; the exterior with a textured faux leather (leather); lined and padded interior lid, with a recessed medal bed; functional spring catch with stud release; intact fabric hinge cover; functional exterior metal hinges; measuring 98 mm (w) x 65 mm (h); the lid of the case slightly torn in the rear corners, with light chips to the pear in the corners of the cross, but in overall near extremely fine condition.
