Austria, Imperial. An Honour Decoration of the Red Cross, Officer’s Cross with Stone Center
(Ehrenzeichen vom Roten Kreuz). Instituted in 1923. Multipiece construction, in silver featuring a red, white and green enamelled cross, a green enamel wreath sits atop the arms, the center medallion has been replaced with a large red synthetic stone, reverse with two J prongs, marked with G.A.S denoting Scheid manufacture, marked 900 for silver fineness, the 3 and 9 o’clock arms are engraved 186 and 914 respectively, engravings showing wear around medallion as engraving should show 1864 and 1914, measures 47.15mm (w) x 55.65mm (h), weighs 28.9 grams, enamels intact, stone replacement, in very fine condition. Contained in its original case of issue, red leatherette exterior marked Patriae ac Humanitati 1864-1914 K.D., the interior lid is maker marked G.A. SCHEID WIEN, a crème coloured velvet medal bed, measures 80mm (w) x 86mm (h) x 21mm (d), light wear, remains in very fine condition.
