A grouping of two silver bravery medals, including 1) A Silver Bravery Medal, with Swords. A round silvered bronze medal, the obverse depicting the rightward facing bust of Kaiser Franz Joseph, circumscribed by his name and title, the reverse inscribed “SIGNUM LAUDIS” (Sign of Praise), within an open ended laurel and oak wreath, suspended from a period original ribbon with crossed swords attached, measuring 30.74 mm (w) x 51.48 mm (h), weighing 19.2 grams. 2) A Silver Merit Medal. A rounded silvered zink medal, the obverse depicting the rightward facing bust of Kaiser Karl, circumscribed by his name and title, the reverse inscribed “SIGNUM LAUDIS” (Sign of Praise), within an open ended laurel and oak wreath, suspended from a period original ribbon with crossed swords attached, measuring 31.19 mm (w) x 46.74 mm (h), weighing 17.1 grams. In overall near very fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
