A round silver medal; the obverse with a rightward facing Kaiser Franz Joseph, circumscribed by his name and title; the reverse inscribed “Signum Laudis” (Latin- Sign for Praise) within a laurel and oak wreath; with a swivel crown suspension; marked the Austrian import mark “A7”, suspended from a period original ribbon with a single repetition clasp; measuring 30.56 mm in diameter; weighing 21.7 grams. 2) c . 1917-1918. (Silver Militärverdienstmedaille). Second Award. A round silver medal; the obverse with a rightward facing Kaiser Karl, circumscribed by his name and title; the reverse inscribed “Signum Laudis” (Latin- Sign for Praise) within a laurel and oak wreath; with a solid crown suspension; the edge inscribed ‘Officer Corps of the Austrian Imperial Army”; on a double loop suspension; accompanied by its period original ribbon with a single repetition clasp and crossed swords; both in overall extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
