A bronze gilt cross pattee, featuring pebbled arms with an interior larger pebbled border, the obverse center presents a superimposed silver double headed eagle, the reverse carved Mother of Pearl, measures 34.28mm (w) x 38.85mm (h – inclusive of integral loop), weighs 10.3 grams (including ribbon), suspended from an oval loop with horizontal line design, worn on original triangular ribbon, integral loop is bent, wear and oxidation present, fine condition.
Footnote: This cross was founded by Emperor Franz Joseph I to reward Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and enlisted men in the Austrian Army and Navy for long service. The III Class (for 25 years with silver eagle) was conferred upon Officers. Versions of the III Class (for 25 Years) with mother of pearl backing are unofficial examples of the award.
