Austria, Imperial. A Military Merit Medal, Bronze Grade with Swords and Case, by Zimbler
(Militär-Verdienstmedaille in Bronze mit Schwertern und Etui). Constructed of gilded bronze, on loop from a crown suspension with its period original tri-fold ribbon, the latter notably pinned with a sword clasp constructed of magnetic iron, the obverse of the medal bearing a raised and rightward-facing profile of Emperor Franz Joseph, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse bearing a central wreathed inscription of “SIGNUM LAUDIS” (“SIGN OF PRAISE”), unmarked, measuring 30.75 mm in diameter, weighing 22.6 grams (inclusive of ribbon and clasp), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame, the lid bearing an embossed inscription of “BRONZENE MILITÄR VERDIENST-MEDAILLE”, the interior with a white satin lid liner and intact hinge cover, the former maker marked “ZIMBLER, WIEN”, with a depressed black velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, measuring 66 mm (w) x 110 mm (l), with minor tarnishing and material fatigue visible to the decoration and case, respectively, in overall near extremely fine condition.
