Austria, Imperial. An Bavarian Merit Order & Iron Crown Medal Bar
(Bandschnalle). An extensive First War period Austrian medal bar featuring nine orders and decorations, including a Bavarian Order of Military Merit, IV Class with Crown and Swords, instituted 19 July 1866 (issued 1905-1918), presenting as a silver Maltese Cross with blue enameled arms, with flames between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a central black enameled medallion bearing a silver gilt crowned cipher of King Ludwig III, surrounded by a broad white enameled ring in the form of a buckled belt, inscribed “MERENTI” (“MERIT”) in silver gilt lettering, the reverse with a central black enameled medallion bearing a silver gilt crowned Bavarian lion rampant within a white enameled border in the form of a buckled belt in silver gilt numbers, reading “1866”, suspended from a with crossed swords riveted to the upper arm, on a hollow swivel crown for suspension from its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 40.71 mm (w) x 64.16, loss of obverse and reverse enamels evident, otherwise in very fine condition; an Austrian Order of the Iron Crown, III Class with War Decoration, instituted 1815 (issued 1815-1918), of multi-piece construction, consisting of bronze gilt with red, green, white, blue, and black enamels, presenting as a double-headed, Habsburg-style imperial eagle, with a blue enameled shield on its chest bearing a gilt letter “F”, with sword and orb in its talons, flanked on each side by a green enameled laurel branch wreath, above a pedestal with enameled jewel designs, suspended from a gilt and enameled crown, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, reverse crown marked with star hallmark indicating bronze gilt construction, otherwise unmarked, measuring 29.53 mm (w) x 57.08 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition; a Military Merit Cross with War Decoration, III Class, instituted 1849, type II (issued 1914-1918), constructed of silver with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, presenting as a Cross Pattée with obverse red and white enameled arms, joined through the arms by a laurel wreath, with central gilt inscription “VERDIENST” (“SERVICE”), reverse plain with white enamels, unmarked, measuring 30.55 mm (w) x 33.64 mm (h) inclusive of suspension, some flecking of enamels and loosening of appliques, otherwise in very fine condition; a Silver Military Merit Medal with Sword Clasp, constructed of silvered bronze, with crown on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 30 mm in diameter, in very fine condition; a Gold Military Merit Medal with Sword Clasp, constructed of gilded bronze, with crown on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 30 mm in diameter, in near extremely fine condition; a War Commemorative Medal, instituted 23 March 1933, constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with sword clasp, maker marked on reverse “Griemauer”, measuring 35 mm in diameter, in near extremely fine condition; a Tyrol Commemorative Medal, constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 34 mm in diameter, in near extremely fine condition; a Crown Jubilee Cross of 1908 for Military Personnel, constructed of gilded bronze, unmarked, measuring 35 mm (w) x 40 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition, and; a Württemberg Military Merit Medal, constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 28 mm in diameter, in very fine condition; all set on a 195 mm-long bar with horizontal pinback and grey wool backer, in near extremely fine condition.
