What's a max bid?

Austria, Imperial. A Military Order of Maria Theresa, Knight by Rothe, c.1930

(Militär Maria Theresien Orden). Instituted June 18, 1757 by Empress Maria Theresa. In bronze gilt, a white enamelled Geneva cross with slightly waving arm finials, obverse medallion presents a round convex central medallion presenting the Austrian national colours (red-white-red) in enamels, surrounded by a white enamel ring inscribed FORTITUDINI (Fortitude), the reverse medallion presents a white enamelled field inscribed MTF (Maria Theresa Franciscus) in ornate script, surrounded by a green enamel ring, measures 30.54mm (w) x 32.90mm (h – inclusive of integral ring), weighs 14.9 grams, suspended from a replacement double-barrelled loop, enamels intact but crudely done along edges of cross, staining in reverse center medallion, scratches in each letter of the obverse inscription, better than fine condition. Accompanied by it’s correct ribbon formed with triangular point and button hole, measures 37.60mm (w) x 124.33mm (l – folded in center), lightly creased, very fine condition. Contained in hardshell case of issue composed of wood and red leatherette, exterior presents golden ornate details, the interior is composed of a purple velvet medalbed with square indented section for folded ribbon, crème coloured silk lid presents makers mark for ROTHE KOHLMARKT 7 WIEN, measures 61.85mm (w) x 126.20mm (l) x 25.80mm (d), hinge and clasp functional, extremely fine condition.

 

Footnote: The Knight was conferred upon Officers for extraordinary acts of valour and bravery. From 1757 to 1931, a total of 1,039 Knight’s Crosses were awarded. The Order official ceased to exist in 1986, when the last recipient died.
