(Kaiserlich-Österreischischer Franz-Joseph-Orden). Instituted in 1849. Three-piece construction, in silver with red and white enamels, measuring 14.5 mm (w) x 26 mm (h), flaking evident in the red enamels on the arm at 12 o'clock on the reverse, otherwise the enamels are intact, on its original triangular war ribbon, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of Franz Joseph was instituted on December 2, 1849 and awarded for military and civil merit, especially in industry, commerce and diplomacy, in five grades: Grand Cross, Commander with Star, Commander, Officer and Knight. The ribbon was plain red except for awards for war services, when the war decoration ribbon was used.
