Austria, Imperial. An Order of the Iron Crown, I Class with Swords & War Decoration (Rothe Copy)
(Orden der Eisernen Krone 1. Klasse). Instituted on 7 April 1815 by Emperor Franz I. Post-1945 Copy. A I Class Sash Badge, constructed of bronze gilt, consists of the Lombard Iron Crown presenting green, red and white-enamelled jewels, on which rests the two-headed Austrian eagle with sword and orb, with a blue enamelled central shield showing on the obverse the imperial initial F and on the reverse the year 1815, the obverse presenting a war decoration constructed of green-enamel in the shape of a laurel wreath, above rests the imperial crown, with crossed swords, firmly attached to the double-headed eagle, measuring 44.63 mm (w) x 79.27 mm (h - inclusive of crown), weighing 47.0 grams, suspended from a hollow swivel crown suspension from a horizontally pierced ball and flat suspension loop, with period original sash, and in overall near extremely fine condition. Accompanied by a Breast Star constructed of an eight-pointed silver star with jewel-cut faceted rays, the obverse with a central gilt medallion with a sun-ray pattern depicting the Iron Crown, with circumscription AVITA ET AUCTA (INHERIT AND MULTIPLY) on a blue-enamelled background, surrounded by a border of golden beads, with swords crossing through the central medallion, with a gilded silver laurel wreath attached to the star by four rivets, the reverse presents a vertical pinback, the pin bears the maker’s mark C.F. ROTHE WIEN, measuring 87.03 mm (w) x 84.57 mm (h), weighing 90.4 grams, and in very fine condition.
