Austria, Imperial. An Order of the Iron Crown, Miniature in Gold, by Vincent Mayer’s Sohne, c. 1900
(Orden der Eisernen Krone). Instituted on April 7, 1815. An excellent quality miniature in 18k Gold, presenting the Lombard Iron Crown presenting green, red and white-enamelled jewels, on which rests the two-headed Austrian eagle with sword and orb, with a blue enamelled central shield showing on the obverse the imperial initial F and on the reverse the year 1815, above rests the imperial crown firmly attached to the double-headed eagle, measures 10.45mm (w) x 20.5mm (h – inclusive of crown suspension and cross adorned horizontally pierced ball), weighs 1.8 grams, marked VM on ring with Gold hallmark below denoting Viennese manufacture between 1872-1922, enamels intact, a lovely highly detailed decoration in extremely fine condition.
