(Österreichisch-kaiserliche Leopold-Orden). Instituted on 8 January 1808 by Emperor Franz I. III Model. A silver gilt Maltese cross with red and white enamels, obverse centre presenting the initials “F.I.A.,” circumscribed by “INTEGRITATI ET MERITO,” reverse centre with motto of Leopold II “OPES REGUM CORDA SUBDITORUM,” within a golden laurels, adorned by a detailed Austrian crown in addition to green enameled laurels, maker mark “VM” on integral ring as well as suspension ring, hallmarked with Diana-head on the suspension ring (indicating silver) , measures 30.28 mm (w) x 58.82 mm (h - inclusive of crown and horizontally pierced ball suspension), weighs 14.3 grams, with light enamel wear, near extremely fine. With period ribbon featuring a small decoration for a Commander cross in bronze and enamels, with back plate and pin, with war decoration and golden swords, extremely fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
