Austria, Imperial. An Order of Leopold, Grand Cross Star with Lower War Decoration & Swords (Rothe Copy)
        (Österreichisch-kaiserlicher Leopold-Orden Großkreuz mit Kriegsdekoration). Instituted on 8 January 1808 by Franz I of Austria. Post-1945 Rothe Copy. A faceted eight-armed beaded star in silver, featuring an obverse centrepiece constructed of bronze gilt, consisting of an enameled red cross pattée with enameled white frame, circumscribed by two silver crossed swords and a gilt laurel wreath in each quadrant denoting lower grade war decoration, obverse centre superposed by the inscription FIA for FRANCISCUS IMPERATOR AUSTRIAE, on an enameled red medallion, surrounded by a border of white enamel, inscribed INTEGRITATI ET MERITO (FOR INTEGRITY AND MERIT), reverse centre presenting a principle pin assembly, maker marked C.F. ROTHE WIEN, measuring 92.74 x 92.87, light contact, centre slightly impressed into order body, very fine condition.
