Cross of the KNights of the Order, in 18Kt Gold (tested) and enamels, measuring 51.35mm x 51.5mm, weighs 55.7 grams, circa 1900 period manufacture, unmarked, of excellent quality manufacture, in extremely fine condition and very rare.
Footnote: The Order of St. Rupert of the Prince-Archbishopric of Salzburg, established in 1701, consisting of 3 grades (Grand cross, Commander and Knight) was seldom awarded and no precise information exists on exact design of the cross. This particular cross was reproduced circa 1900, based on illustration in the work from the "Order of the Garter to the Legion of Honor, the Historical Orders of Chivalry and Merit of Europe', 1821. Cross was worn on a lilac colored ribbon.
For a nearly identical cross, see Christian Ortner & Georg Ludwigstorff "Austrian Orders and Decorations", part 3, Volume 1, page 195.
