(Dutch: Leopoldsorde, French: Ordre de Léopold). Instituted in 1851. Military Division. In silver, an eight point star with clusters of faceted rays, the obverse medallion in Gold features a rampant crowned lion on a black enamel field, surrounded by a red ring inscribed L’UNION FAIT LA FORCE (Strength in Unity), two Gold swords pierce the medallion, the reverse with a principle pin and dual stays, the cartouche denotes the maker C.J BULS 35 MARCHE AUX HERBES BRUXELLES, pin marked with Minerva head silver guarantee denoting 1831-1868 manufacture and a B makers mark denoting Buls manufacture, measures 81.5mm (w) x 84.5mm (h), weighs 60.5 grams, lovely silver patina, small flake to black enamel in medallion, hinge and catch functional, in extremely fine condition.
