Bulgaria, Kingdom. An Order of St. Alexander, IV Class Officer, with Case, by C.F. Rothe & Neffe
(Орден "Свети Александър”). Instituted on 25 December 1881. Type II. (1881-1947 Issue). A silver gilt Maltese cross consisting of a white enameled cross pattée, centre obverse as red-enamelled medallion with the name of the Order inscribed in gilded letters, surrounded by a white circle with the motto СЪ НАМИ БОГЪ (God with us”) inscribed, with two laurel branches underneath, reverse a white background with the inscription 19 ФЕВРАЛЪ 1878 (18 February 1878), atop the cross is an imperial crown, measuring 37.48 mm x 71.20 (h - inclusive of crown suspension), weighing 26.1 grams, with enamel chipping on reverse centre medallion, on loop suspension from period original triangle ribbon with rosette, and in overall near extremely fine condition. Accompanied by its hardshelled case of issue, marked with the Bulgarian coat-of-arms and inscribed in cyrillic ОРДЕНЪ СВ. АЛЕКСАНДЪРЪ V.СIII (Order of St. Alexander, 4th Class) on the lid, maker marked ROTHE & NEFFE WIEN on the inside lid, recessed, black velvet medal bed, measuring 61 mm (w) x 121 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), and in very fine condition.
