Instituted June 17, 1950. Third Issue. In 14K Gold, a decoration depicting a left facing profile of Georgi Dimitrov on a red enamelled background with a white enamel surrounding ring, the medallion is encircled by a wreath of wheat with a red enamelled star at 12 o’clock, and a red enamel banner under the profile inscribed ГЕОРГИ ДИМИТРОВ, the reverse is plain with two rivet holes, measures 41.6mm (w) x 47.45mm (h – inclusive of integral ring), weighs 34.0 grams (including ribbon), worn on a reinforced triangular ribbon, enamels intact, in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The Order was instituted in commemoration of Georgi Dimitrov by the Presidium. It was conferred upon Bulgarians and foreigners in recognition of exceptional services and contributions to the security, defence, and freedom of Bulgaria and socialism. There were approximately 4000 recipients of the Order before it was discontinued on April 5, 1991.
