Croatia, Independent State. A Lot of Photographs and Correspondence from a Croatian Luftwaffe Volunteer
A mixed lot of images and correspondence from the estate of a Croatian Luftwaffe volunteers, including 11 period photographs spanning the period from the recipient’s childhood until his service with the Wehrmacht, including an early cabinet photo from a Zagreb studio, studio portraits and family photos, as well as one photo depicting the owner in a Luftwaffe uniform and a group photo depicting him with a group of Luftwaffe personnel on a train, many bearing Croatian-language handwritten inscriptions on the reverse, in overall near extremely fine condition; accompanied by a lot of 13 Feldpost letters and postcards, posted between 1943 and 1945 and addressed to a recipient in Zagreb who was presumably his wife, all featuring lengthy handwritten inscriptions from Dragutin Varjačić, posted from Croatian aviation training schools and bases in Paderborn, Detmold, and Wiener Neustadt, the final envelope notably posted domestically on 7 October 1945 and featuring stamps of Democratic Federal Yugoslavia (the precursor to the Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia), a fascinating and researchable collection in extremely fine condition.
