A Danish Golden Anniversary Medal 1794-1844 - Red Bronze, obverse illustrating the right-facing conjoined busts of Conrad Daniel Graf von Blücher-Altona and Countess Marie von Blücher-Altona of Abbestee, surrounded by the inscription "GRAF CONRAD v. BLÜCHER-ALTONA. GRÄFIN MARIE v. BLÜCHER-ALTONA GEB. D'ABBESTEE.", inscribed "VERMÄHLT 1 MAY 1794." below and engraver marked "F. ALSING. FEC.", reverse inscribed "DEM HOCHGESEGNETEN ALLVEREHRTEN JUBELPAARE AM FUNFYZIGSTEN JAHRESTAGE SEINER VERMÄHLUNG. ALTONA AM 1 MAI 1844.", 60 mm, extremely fine. Footnote: Conrad Daniel Graf von Blücher-Altona (February 29, 1764 - August 1, 1845) was Danish Oberpräsident of the city Altona, the highest administrative official of the then Danish city. Altona is the westernmost urban borough of the German city state of Hamburg and from 1640 to 1864, Altona was under the administration of the Danish monarchy. During the siege of Hamburg and Altona in 1813-1814, he saved the communities from destruction by the French. During the Great Fire of 1842, he organized aid for Hamburg and in return, received its honourary citizenship. He was made a Knight of the Danish Order of the Elephant on November 7, 1838. He married Countess Marie von Blücher-Altona of Abbestee (October 24, 1770 - December 8, 1852) on May 1, 1794 and celebrated their fiftieth year of marriage in 1844. The couple had two children: Fanny Sophie (September 26, 1797 - June 30, 1835) and Gustav Carl Frederik (December 15, 1798 - March 25, 1864).
