(Dannebrogordenen). Instituted on 12 October 1671 by Christian V. Type IV. (1864-1906 Issue). Of high-quality and in Gold, featuring an oblong Latin Cross with finely enamelled white arms with red borders, displaying detailed Gold royal crowns in each quadrant, obverse centre presents the royal cipher of Christian V, with the inscription GUD OG KONGEN (GOD AND THE KIND) on its arms, the reverse centre displays the crowned W, with the crowned F VI on the twelve o’clock arm, the dates 1219, 1671, and 1808 appear on the other arms, surmounted by the royal cipher of Christian IX crowned with the distinctive Danish royal crown, hallmarked on loop with the three tower mark for the city of Copenhagen and the digits 75 for the year 1875, measuring 26.62 mm (w) x 57.49 mm (h - inclusive of crown), weighing 14.9 grams, on loop for suspension from period original ribbon, and in extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
