Instituted April 14, 1994. Composed of silver, an eight point stary with clusters of smooth rays, the obverse medallion features a blue enamelled shield with the state coat of arms featuring a diagonal line with three silver lilies on each side, crossed swords pierce the shield, the reverse is hollow, the star is suspended by a blue enamelled plate with a small imitation diamond on each end, below a large stylized lily, the reverse of the suspension bears a pinch pin on the large lily, the medal measures 44.10mm (w) x 65.2mm (h – including suspension), weighs 14.2 grams, enamels intact, lovely patina, in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The Medal for Military Merit is awarded to military commanders and soldiers who significantly contributed and other legal entities, or who are distinguished by such commanding or military qualities that they serve as an example to others. It is also awarded to citizens in military units and institutions, as well as in companies, state bodies and organizations and other legal entities, who by their example significantly contribute to the achievement of tasks of special immediate significance for defense. This medal was made by the workshop of Fahrudin Softic from Sarajevo. Seven members of the Armed forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina were awarded the Medal for military merit.
