Finland, Republic. A German-Finnish Northern Front Badge, Type I
(Erinnerungsmedaille für Deutsche/Finnischen Nordfront). Constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with blue enameled arms and a mobile swastika through the quadrants, the arms of the latter bearing raised inscriptions of “PETSAMO”, “SALLA”, “KIESTINKI”, and “UHTUA”, with a central white enameled medallions bearing Finnish and NSDAP-style German flags, around central dates “1941-43”, circumscribed by a gilt inscription of “POHJOISRINTAMA - DIE NORDFRONT” (“THE NORTHERN FRONT”), the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse applique in place, unmarked, measuring 34.70 mm (w) x 34.62 mm (h), weighing 17.4 grams, the is a chip to the white enameled medallion at the six o’clock position, in overall better than very fine condition.
