A Crimea Period c.1855 French Officer's Gorget - Brass base with a silver insignia affixed in the centre, the insignia illustrating a left-facing rooster, its right foot on a cannonball inscribed "FRANCE", its left foot on a flagpole, crossed French flags on flagpoles below, inscribed "LIBERTE" on the left one and "ORDRE PUBLIC" on the right one, oak leaf clusters around the tops of both flagpoles, the junction of the two flagpoles passing through a wreath of laurel leaves, insignia held firmly in place via eight intact prongs, holes on either end of the gorget for neck suspension, independent chamois liner on the underside, 55.5 mm x 129 mm, extremely fine.
