(Ordre du Mérite Social). Instituted in 1936. In silver with azure blue and white enamels, maker marked "AXC" (Adrien Chaubillon, Paris) on the ring, measuring 39.8 mm (w) x 44.3 mm (h) inclusive of its laterally-pierced ball suspension, very light contact, original ribbon, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of Social Merit was instituted on October 25, 1936. It was awarded for meritorious services within institutions concerned with social legislation, in three grades: Commander, Officer and Knight. It was discontinued on January 1, 1964 and replaced by the National Order of Merit.
