(Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur). Type VIII (1870-1951). In silver, a white enamelled Maltese cross with ball finials, a green enamelled laurel and oak leaf wreath in each quadrant, the center silver gilt medallion features a right facing profile of Marianne surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE 1870, the reverse medallion bears two crossed French flags, surrounded by a blue enamel ring HONNEUR ET PATRIE, the badge is surmounted by a green oak and laurel wreath suspension, marked on the 6 o’clock ribbon tassel with a boars head mark denoting silver fineness and Paris manufacture between 1838-1962, measures 62.9mm (w) x 90.9mm (h), weighs 52.9 grams, worn on original neck ribbon, ships to white enamel at numerous ray tips on obverse and reverse, loss of blue enamel surrounds, dark patina, light wear, remains in very near very fine condition.
