Instituted 1818. A highly aesthetically pleasing award in Gold, consisting of an eight armed white enameled cross with hand etched detailing, Gold hand formed fire burst in all eight quadrants, obverse centre applique with a hand painted portrait of a ruling Subah, with blue enamel surround with hand painted lettering, reverse centre presents a hand painted palm tree on blue enamels, additional blue enamel surround with hand painted lettering, measuring 39.5 mm (w) x 42.8 mm (h- inclusive of its integral ring), weighing 13.3 grams inclusive of its period ribbon which is sewn in place, a beautiful award, with very minor white enamel loss to tips of 3 arms, otherwise remains extremely fine.
Footnote: As outlined by the notable collector Dr.Albert Goodwin in the Medal Collector, Vol 11, No 2 [March-April 1960] p. 3 & p. 15, offered is an early French award of superb quality. Inspired as a memento of the Indian Mughul Empire in 1818, the societies use of wearable distinctions likely dates from 1825 until 1845, when the society dissolved.
