France, La Presidence. An Order of the Legion of Honour, Knight in Gold, c.1850
(Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur). Type VI (1851-1852). In silver, a white enamelled Maltese cross with ball finials, green enamelled oak/laurel leaf segments in each quadrant, the obverse medallion in Gold features the right facing portrait of Napoleon surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed NAPOLEON EMP. DES FRANCAIS, the reverse medallion presents an eagle on a striped field, surrounded by a blue ring HONNEUR ET PATRIE, the cross is surmounted by a silver crown, markedon the reverse tassel with a rabbit head denoting Paris manufacture between 1819-1838, measures 44.2mm (w) x 65.7mm (h), weighs 19.8 grams, worn on an original red ribbon, arms have been extensively repaired on both the obverse and the reverse, crown has been bent, light wear to obverse wreath, in near very fine condition.
