France; Military Medal, Third Republic, 1870-1951 (silver gilt with blue enamels, eagle's head hallmarked on the obverse, 27.8 mm (w) x 48 mm inclusive of its trophy of arms suspension, original ribbon); Ministry of Commerce and Industry Medal of Honour, Silver Grade 1912 (silver, cornucopia hallmarked and marked "ARGENT" (silver) on the edge, engraved "M. GAYOT 1912" on the reverse, 27 mm, rosette on its original ribbon); Reconnaissance Medal, Bronze Grade, Type II, 1945 (bronze, engraver marked "M. Delannoy" on the obverse, 31.8 mm, original ribbon); and War Cross 1939-1945 (bronze, "1939" reverse, 37.3 mm, bronze star on its original ribbon). Extremely fine.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
