Three-piece construction, in bronze gilt with blue, white and green enamels, centrepiece insignia bearing a right-facing Marianne surrounded by the inscription "ŒUVRE HUMANITAIRE" (Humanitarian Works) within a wreath of oak leaves, mounted to a Maltese cross base with ball finials at the tips, along with laurel leaves between the arms, measuring 59.8 mm (w) x 83 mm (h) inclusive of its wreath suspension, intact enamels, two small marks evident on the gilt centrepiece, on its original full-length neck ribbon, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Union Philanthropique des Oeuvres Françaises was founded in Paris in 1937, to encourage charitable works. In 1954, the Union merged with Oeuvre Humanitaire, founded in Toulouse in 1920, and subsequent awards have been made by the Comité de Récompense de l'Oeuvre Humanitaire et du Mérite Philanthropique for voluntary humanitarian, social and philanthropic achievement. The Cross of Honour for Humanitarian Works is awarded for outstanding humanitarian work.
