France, II Restoration. An Order of the Legion of Honour, Knight, c.1820
(Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur). Type III (1816-1830). In silver, a white enamelled Maltese cross with ball finials, green enamelled oak/laurel leaf segments in each quadrant, the obverse medallion features the right facing portrait of Henry IV surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed HENRY IV ROI DE FRANCE ET DE NAVARRE, the reverse medallion features three Fleur-de-lis on a striped field, surrounded by a blue ring, the cross is surmounted by a crown with blue and green details, marked on the ring with a fasces denoting Paris silver guarantee for small objects between 1809-1819, measures 42.3mm (w) x 65.3mm (h – inclusive of surmounting crown), weighs 21.7 grams, worn on a replacement red ribbon, blue enamels on the reverse medallion have been redone covering the original inscription, enamel crack and chip to obverse 12 o’clock arm, light enamel chips to the reverse wreath, remains in very fine condition.
