France, III Republic. A Fine Set of Legion of Honour Cufflinks 1911
In silver, each cufflink composed of two ovals bearing an image of an award, one pair illustrating the Order of St. Louis and the Order of the Iron Crown, the other pair illustrating the Order of the Legion of Honour and the Military Medal, each oval measuring 13.2 mm (w) x 16 mm (h), with a loop on the reverse of each and connected via a five-link chain, three of the loops hallmarked with a boar's head, each pair suspended by a series of gold-coloured strings from a cardboard panel, the panel with a black and white photograph of the Medal Commemorating the Retrospective of the Legion of Honour from May 1911, the medal illustrating all four awards and framed by branches of laurel leaves, the horizontal box below inscribed "EXMPLAIRE DE COLLECTION 19-50 (Exemplary Collection, number 19 of 50, the medal itself being rare, as only 50 were struck) and surrounded by the inscription "EXPOSITION RÉTROSPECTIVE DE LA LÉGION D'HONNEUR / MAI 1911" (Retrospective Exhibition of the Legion of Honour / May 1911), with two overlying panels below, one illustrating both pairs of cufflinks, the other inscribed "Boutons de manchettes tirés, en réduction; de la médaille ci-dessus" (Pulled cufflinks, in reduction; of the medal above), enclosed under glass, within an ornate brass frame bearing a floral design over red cloth, measuring 175 mm (w) x 215 mm (h), a loop at the top for wall hanging, the reverse missing its easel, the cufflinks extremely fine, the frame very fine.
